Carbon footprint - Tracing how green products and packaging really are

Every product leaves a trace in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are generated during every stage of the supply chain – from the excavation of natural resources to production and processing and finally through to consumption and waste disposal. In business and politics initiatives are currently emerging to calculate and reduce the so-called carbon footprint of products of all kinds. So far, however, there is no standard method for calculating and comparing the carbon dioxide emissions. By providing carbon footprint consulting,Wipak is adding a new service to its portfolio in order to support its customers in calculating the carbon footprint of products and packaging.

Design competition - Impulses for innovative packaging

Chilled slices of butter, ‘leg-of-ham' packs of sliced ham, space-saving snap-on assortment trays... "The range of creative packaging designs was truly impressive," said Adolf Ahrens of Wipak Walsrode, full of praise for the work submitted by the design students who, in the spring of this year, had taken part in the competition initiated by Wipak. Free of any technical constraints, the communication design students at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (FHTW Berlin) produced "highly promising concepts for marketable packaging". Ahrens' assessment was shared by Ute von Buch, editor-in-chief of the trade journal ‘creativ verpacken', who commended the students especially on "their great amount of effort, input and ideas".
